If I report unemployment fraud now, will I be able to collect benefits in the future?

Yes. Victims of identity theft will still be able to file for and collect unemployment benefits. The state will remove the fraudulent case from the record once the claim is determined to be fraudulent.

However, some states will put a hold or lock on your account to protect you from future fraudulent activity. In these cases, you may have to start the claim process with the state’s fraud unit so your claim can be unlocked. We have found that this often helps speed up the process and jumps you “ahead” in the line when you need to file a valid claim.
