What can I do to protect myself from unemployment fraud?

Remain alert and aware of any activity that looks suspicious. If you receive any correspondence from any State Workforce Agency and you did not file for benefits, alert your HR department and contact the state agency. Examples of some types of notices that you may receive are Monetary Determination or Eligibility Notices, benefit checks or debit cards, or Notices of Benefit Overpayments just to name a few.

Be careful with information that you share online or over the phone.  Fraudsters may impersonate someone and ask for information about your current employer or other personal information.  If you did not initiate these calls, do not share personal information such as your birth date, address or other employment information history.

You may want to enroll in an Identity Theft Protection program to add an additional layer of security.
