I received a call from someone asking me to send them part of the fraudulent unemployment check I just received. What do I do?

If you received an unemployment check or direct deposit for benefits that you did not initiate, you may get a call, text or email from someone trying to get some or all the money sent to them. Make sure you document the caller’s name and contact information if they claim to be from a state workforce agency and verify their information after the call.

If you are asked to send the money via wire transfer, cash or gift card, this is always a scammer and you should not send them any money.  If you can capture their name and/or contact number, this can be reported to the State Workforce Agency to help aid in their investigation.
